Frederick Herzberg, an American psychologist, introduced the "Two-Factor Theory" in 1959, a favourite reference ever since. His theory identifies two sets of factors that influence employees:

Motivators: Engaging tasks, recognition, responsibility, and growth opportunities.
Hygiene factors: Salary, job security, and working conditions.
